I inherited an old wood cabinet with the remains of an RCA TV set inside (screen, picture tube only). Apparently the speaker, the knobs, and the electrical plug were taken long ago. Is there anyone in MD/PA/VA/DC/WVA area that might want some extra RCA parts or a cabinet? I'd hate to see the parts go to waste. Thanks, Joe. JoeBontheroad at yahoo dot com.  (10/26/07)

Free--Seattle area. Portable Silvertone from the 50's--has a date stamped on it that says August 26, 1958. It currently needs to have some of the pieces put back together. Checking on Google and e-bay, Silvertone TVs seem fairly rare. I hope someone wants it and I don't have to take it to the recycle place. woodward3046 at comcast dot net (10/16/07)
To give away - 1949 Sparton 4900, mahogany cabinet, stored inside, TV missing, radio tubes and phonograph included. Must pick up, southern Illinois. Have photos. arleneashe at peoplepc dot com (8/31/07)

Prewar TV Sets for Sale

I have a working TRK-12 RCA PREWAR that I would like to trade for TABLE TOP PREWAR in similar condition, I am downsizing my collection to smaller sets. Thanks Neil, nbd at juno.com (6/21/08)

This receiver is one of a handfull of pre-war Silvertone televisions manufactured by RCA in 1939.  All major manufactures and retailers, including the Sears Roebuck Company, wanted to get in on the introduction of Television at the World’s Fair.  Sears commissioned a TRK-12, TRK-5 and TT-5 equivalent from RCA.  It is believed that these receivers were never sold to the public.  To date this is the only surviving sample of the table model version.  At present the set is not operational.  A restoration was started 20 years ago when the power transformer failed.  The covers are present to be used on the new transformer.  The rest of the chassis is complete and the knobs are original.  On the back of the chassis you can see that the Silvertone label was pasted over the RCA label.  The cabinet is in fair condition with the original finish.  I have a reproduction TT-5 back and the original box and top section of a back from a TRK-5.  Looking for best offer over 20k.   Phone or e-mail for more information.   Restoration of this set is possible if that is important.  Call or e-mail for more photos or information.  Jeff Lendaro jlandjl at Ameritech dot net or 317 773 3969. (5/12/08)

For Sale: FADA 930. I lost interest in this FADA 930 project and no longer have space for it in my basement. The last I tried it it had vertical trouble, which should easily be cured by recapping. Many familiar with this set realize it is a knock off of the more popular RCA 12" model. The set is in good condition, chassis complete with doghouse cover. 12LP4 CRT was rebuilt about 10 years ago. (Superior Tube, Carteret , NJ.). Chassis has some ST shape tubes (2 5U4's, 6BG6, 5V4.) One of the 2 oval speakers located each side of the CRT is missing? (Not sure all models had dual speakers) It cabinet has the wood back / mesh. All knobs  are there. Chassis and CRT are currently not installed. Located in Niantic, Connecticut, too heavy to ship. First $200.00 gets the set which I consider a bargain. My cell phone number is 860 884 8900, ask for JOE. (7/14/08)

I have a Sylvania Television Camera model 101 or 101A. It is about the size of a shoebox and has both a standard lens and a telephoto lens with two other empty slots on the front plate. It appears to be in decent shape. I fired it up tonight and the status light comes on but I do not know if it actually works. I do not know what the video output is tuned to. It has a single BNC style connection on the back. The cord has the old style forks on the other end for attachment to a TVs antenna screws. I tried in on a new TV but couldn't get an image. Just odd patterns and fuzzy black, as if the TV couldn't quite tune it in.

I have the box, manual, and a tripod. I am using the tripod for a lightweight jib in my business (they don't make em like that anymore), and it includes the support brace for the legs and wheels for mobility.

It's pretty cool. Does somebody want this? I don't want to take advantage of anybody so just make me an offer. Any offer. But please don't take advantage of me. It is not valuable to me. If it is for somebody's museum great. If it is for a private collection I would hope someone else would step forward and give me a value on this unit.

The tripod is valuable to me. If you want that then we will need to trade, or negotiate for something I can use for work.

I have acquired a old Heath kit color TV that was never completed. I want to sell the CRT, it never been used. I verified it's emission and it is exceptional. The picture tube is a RCA 25 inch rectangular with 3 bars on glass (30 KV). 25AP22 type. It will substitute for almost all the early rectangular 25 inch Delta gun tubes. Including the 23V and 25A types and more................ Even the 23EGP22 if used with a band kit or tailor your own kit of ears and band. Real nice for that OLD set circa 1965 or later. I even have modified round tube sets to accept the rectangular tube a real chore but fun. Back in the day when the rectangular tube was new and all the rage. This is a RCA OEM tube that is really nice. Not a cheap rebuild. A rare find to keep your set original with a virtual new tube at a mere $160 dollars. Thank you. Reproduction TRK-12 rubber masks, $100 a piece. I need to get orders for at least 3 others before I can go ahead with the order. The person making the Motorola masks will do it if we get at least 6 orders. Contact Barry Kasindorf, barry at barrykasindorf dot com 508 528 0026 (2/10/08)

Masks for Motorola VT-71 and VT-73 televisions are now available at Renovated Radios. Look in the Parts page near the bottom. These masks are made of a foam very similar to the original mask. Originals were sprayed on the face with a gray paint, probably to cut down on reflections. These reproductions are dyed gray so you won't have to paint them. The one on the left is the repro, on the right is the original. (*)

Now available for sale: Replacement for the vertical dynamic convergence transformer for the RCA CT100 color TV. Price $200. I will pot the new transformer in your old transformer housing using silicone rubber for an additional $40.

The vertical dynamic convergence transformer in the RCA CT100 color TV is subject to a high failure rate for several reasons. First, the transformer is would with very fine wire, (#40 and # 43 gauge). This fine wire is subject to damage due to corrosion caused by acids and impurities in the materials used to construct the transformer, and from moisture intrusion into the pitch which was used to pot the transformer. The pitch expands and contracts with temperature, and develops cracks. In addition to moisture intrusion, the movement of the pitch may lead to mechanical failure of the fine wires where they are joined to the larger external lead wires. The failure modes show up as open circuits on either the primary, or more frequently, the secondary windings. While this will not cause any damage to the TV, it will prevent proper convergence, and may lead to loss of focus voltage at the CRT.

Second, is the 3-4KV DC focus voltage applied to the secondary of the transformer. This makes the transformer prone to arcing or shorting from secondary to primary. This can lead to a more catastrophic failure. If a short develops from secondary to primary, all the power from the focus rectifier is dissipated into the focus potentiometer. And if the wiper of the focus pot is near the high potential side, all the power is dissipated in a small portion of the resistive element of the potentiometer, burning it out in a matter of only a few seconds.

I have seen several convergence transformers which were open circuit at the start of a CT100 restoration, and have witnessed two transformers short out after the set was restored and powered up, resulting in the destruction of one focus potentiometer. This is what has inspired me to take on the challenge of having a replacement transformer built. These transformers have been installed in several CT100 TVs, as well as Westinghouse, Silvertone and Sylvania 15" color TVs.

So you 15" color TV owners may want to consider one of these replacement transformers. Supplies are limited, with no assurance of future availability.

Any questions email or call. I will bring several transformers to the ETF convention. If you think you will buy one at the convention, please let me know so I bring enough.

Beware of an offer from Luis or Frank Gold from Spain to sell antique TV sets. He apparently takes photos off the internet and claims he has sets for sale. He approached us about a rare Mars set he said he had. When we asked for pictures he sent photos of a 1950s Emerson and a 1950 RCA console missing its chassis. He also attempted to sell another collector a CT-100 for $100. (3/17/08)
