I have the following televison available. It is an Admiral, not sure of the year and no model number can be found on the set. It is approximately 24" diagonal. On the front of the set it say Solar Color 740. It may be from the late 1960's. I am not a collector, just thought someone might like to have the unit. If no one is interested it will go to the landfill. Its yours for free, I live in New Mexico. Please put old TV in the subject line.   vf51screamineagles at yahoo dot com (3-7-10)

I have the following televison available. It is a Sylvania. It was manufactured in 1953 I believe. It is approximately 19" diagonal. On the front of the set it says Sylvania 270M with Halo Light. I am not a collector, just thought someone might like to have the unit. If no one is interested it will go to the landfill. Its yours for free, I live in New Mexico. Please put old TV in the subject line.  vf51screamineagles at yahoo dot com (3-7-10)

Free TV console. Sylvania CF570WR. My father bought this TV right before the moon landing in 1969. Cosmetically it is excellent, no damage. It has a walnut veneer cabinet. There is sliding doors to hide the TV tube while not being used. There is a stereo radio on the right of the tv and a phonograph on the left. I plugged it in recently and nothing happened. It says it is all solid state, so it may be easier to refurbish than one containing tubes. Included is a remote control. It is located in Scotts Valley CA, just North of Santa Cruz. I can help load this set on a pickup. Two of us is would be sufficient, three would be better. I would prefer it goes to someone who would be interested in restoration it rather than just gutting it for the cabinet. Joe at citruslaser at yahoo dot com. Please include TV in the subject line. (3/4/10)

Heathkit, circa 1975 - GR900, no cabinet, fairly sure I have the manuals.  Was working, but has audio and intermittent HV problem.  Calculate cost from 28739, weight without pic tube 80lbs.  Also have an extra 25" RCA pic tube, in good shape, from an Heath GR2000.  All free if you want to pick it up, or arrange to pay for shipping.  Contact cw_45 at yahoo dot com (11/14/09)
Stromberg Carlson. I'm located in the Los Angeles/Orange County area and have had this particular TV for quite a number of years. It would be great to hand it over to someone that can find some value in it. The last time I fired it up, the CRT lit and I was able to get a raster, so it may not be that far away from working. Also have a Sam's for it. Contact 76767-3642 at ca dot rr dot com for information. I also have a photo if that helps. (9/1/09)
Free Riders Television Manual. I picked up one volume of Riders in a load of other stuff. It contains nothing of interest to me. Excellent condition. You can have it for the cost of postage (or pickup near Woodinville, WA). The cover has no volume number and I don't know how these things were indexed. It contains manuals for Motorola 17F6C and Hoffman 600 if that gives you a clue. Phil Nelson, info at antiqueradio dot org (9/1/09)

Prewar TV Sets for Sale/Wanted

Wanted: RCA TRK-5.  Don't have a lot of money but do have a lot of valuable antique radios and televisions for trade. kinescope at msn dot com.  206-932-9363 (6/17/10)

Looking to buy a home-built mechanical 32 line monitor system; British (vertical scanning) or American (horizontal scanning).   Not an original from the 1920s or '30s, but a monitor built as a hobby and no longer needed.  I don't have much mechanical or electric skills, so a pre-made and running monitor is what I'm looking for. A 32 line system will use the signal from all the NBTV recordings and software apps. Something similar to this, with a 10" or 12" scanning disk. nutmegflyer at gmail dot com (11/8/09)

This receiver is one of a handfull of pre-war Silvertone televisions manufactured by RCA in 1939.  All major manufactures and retailers, including the Sears Roebuck Company, wanted to get in on the introduction of Television at the World’s Fair.  Sears commissioned a TRK-12, TRK-5 and TT-5 equivalent from RCA.  It is believed that these receivers were never sold to the public.  To date this is the only surviving sample of the table model version.  At present the set is not operational.  A restoration was started 20 years ago when the power transformer failed.  The covers are present to be used on the new transformer.  The rest of the chassis is complete and the knobs are original.  On the back of the chassis you can see that the Silvertone label was pasted over the RCA label.  The cabinet is in fair condition with the original finish.  I have a reproduction TT-5 back and the original box and top section of a back from a TRK-5.  Looking for best offer over 20k.   Phone or e-mail for more information.   Restoration of this set is possible if that is important.  Call or e-mail for more photos or information.  Jeff Lendaro jlandjl at Ameritech dot net or 317 773 3969. 1951 Admiral TV console with Dynamagic Radio and TRIPLE-PLAY Automatic Phonograph and 10" speaker. My parents bought this TV new in 1950.  I was 5 and can verify the first show watched on this TV was Howdy Doody.  It  has been in dry storage since about 1970.  I am reluctant to power it up until an expert looks at it.  I am located in the St. Louis area and need to find a home for this set within the next 10 days.  Contact me at dj2802 at charter dot net. Thanks, Dan (8/9/10)

This is an Admiral radio/phonograph/tv set - does need some restoration the phonograph is missing.  Probably from the late 40's era, from my grandparents home and sat in my parents home.  They wish to sell it and are in Massachusetts. There is a 45RPM phonograph that looks like it would fit with the set, but is not attached therefore I have no photos but would consider selling that with the set. Anyone interested please call 954-802-3225 after 5pm EST, offers considered but must include shipping or pick-up. (6/20/10)

I am interested in selling this vintage TV.  I have an old TV set that belonged to my grandfather who won it at a company raffle in 1954 in Mexico. The brand is one that no longer exists.  It is a Meck, though the proof of purchase, which we still hold intact, states that it was made by Scott Radio Laboratories Inc.  This TV set is not longer functional, but it was built in a wooden casing with wooden shutters. The invoice states that it has a 43 cm. screen 17 inch and the model name is aristocrat.  I am in Atlanta and I have shipped a couple of antiques with a very reliable company in the past at a very reasonable price.  Please contact me at philtaylor0 at yahoo dot com. (5/30/10)

For sale: Philco 1951 TV/Radio/Phono Console mahogany. All original. Haven't started the restoration yet, but will be working on it. Contact me if you want to buy all or part of it. I also have a early 1950's RCA Tv Console. I am assuming both are black and white. I am looking into what it would take to be able to play VHS on them. The arm of the record player is missing. The screen on the bottom of the Philco is intact, just needs cleaning. I will be doing as much as I enjoyable can until someone wants to purchase it/them. Located in Houston, TX. Price: $100 and parts negotiable if split up. Dottie, 713-591-0171. (5/29/10)

For sale, an early, I'd venture a guess at late 50s to early 60s, portable black and white leather bound Philco Television set. Model #H2010. (how odd is that?) Plugged into 110 and turned on, a flickering, projected picture is visible and sound is heard. The case it self is in decent shape and the 110 cord is serviceable. but as would be expected,  no clear picture at this time. The only thing I found odd was the it looked like it had some sort of "feet" because there are 4 holes and an imprint on the bottom surface. If your interested, send me an E-Mail and we'll go from there. cptndirt at aol dot com (5/4/10)

1950s vintage RCA Console. Purchased new by my grandfather and was used by him until about 1961.  That's when our family inherited it and used it occasionally for several more years.  Stored in closet and now needs new home.  This set is ALL original.  I think it may have had a new CRT at some point.  $100 OBO??  Located in Oakland County, MI.  Call 517-332-8084, or email: fred.audioarts at prodigy dot net (4/28/10)

I have a very nice original un-restored crosley cabinet set from I believe 1950-51. Some scratching on the wood exterior, not re-touched anywhere, now for the good part, the interior is nearly flawless for something this old, it has all knobs, emblems, even the sticker/labels on the backside. The felt pad for the turntable is barely showing use, it turns on, needs the tube as it comes on, but no picture, unless the antenna I had didnt pick up here in the valley. I don't have pics yet, but will send upon request. Doug, ttaero at yahoo dot com, or call 740-776-6479, asking $1200. Reproduction TRK-12 rubber CRT masks, $100 a piece. Contact Barry Kasindorf, barry at barrykasindorf dot com 508-528- 0026 (*)

Masks for Motorola VT-71 and VT-73 televisions are now available at Renovated Radios. Look in the Parts page near the bottom. These masks are made of a foam very similar to the original mask. Originals were sprayed on the face with a gray paint, probably to cut down on reflections. These reproductions are dyed gray so you won't have to paint them. The one on the left is the repro, on the right is the original. (*)

Replica pushbuttons are now available again for RCA TRK-5, 9/90, and 12/120 TV sets. Cost is $80 for a set, plus shipping. Go to the Renovated Radios site. *

Now available for sale: Replacement for the vertical dynamic convergence transformer for the RCA CT100 color TV. Price $200. I will pot the new transformer in your old transformer housing using silicone rubber for an additional $40.

The vertical dynamic convergence transformer in the RCA CT100 color TV is subject to a high failure rate for several reasons. First, the transformer is would with very fine wire, (#40 and # 43 gauge). This fine wire is subject to damage due to corrosion caused by acids and impurities in the materials used to construct the transformer, and from moisture intrusion into the pitch which was used to pot the transformer. The pitch expands and contracts with temperature, and develops cracks. In addition to moisture intrusion, the movement of the pitch may lead to mechanical failure of the fine wires where they are joined to the larger external lead wires. The failure modes show up as open circuits on either the primary, or more frequently, the secondary windings. While this will not cause any damage to the TV, it will prevent proper convergence, and may lead to loss of focus voltage at the CRT.

Second, is the 3-4KV DC focus voltage applied to the secondary of the transformer. This makes the transformer prone to arcing or shorting from secondary to primary. This can lead to a more catastrophic failure. If a short develops from secondary to primary, all the power from the focus rectifier is dissipated into the focus potentiometer. And if the wiper of the focus pot is near the high potential side, all the power is dissipated in a small portion of the resistive element of the potentiometer, burning it out in a matter of only a few seconds.

I have seen several convergence transformers which were open circuit at the start of a CT100 restoration, and have witnessed two transformers short out after the set was restored and powered up, resulting in the destruction of one focus potentiometer. This is what has inspired me to take on the challenge of having a replacement transformer built. These transformers have been installed in several CT100 TVs, as well as Westinghouse, Silvertone and Sylvania 15" color TVs.

So you 15" color TV owners may want to consider one of these replacement transformers. Supplies are limited, with no assurance of future availability.

Any questions email or call. I will bring several transformers to the ETF convention. If you think you will buy one at the convention, please let me know so I bring enough.

Sales and Auctions

Notices

Beware of Raggio Smith from the UK, who offered to sell a RCA Television Dynamic Demonstrator to a collector.

Beware of an offer from Luis or Frank Gold from Spain to sell antique TV sets. He apparently takes photos off the internet and claims he has sets for sale. He approached us about a rare Mars set he said he had. When we asked for pictures he sent photos of a 1950s Emerson and a 1950 RCA console missing its chassis. He also attempted to sell another collector a CT-100 for $100. (3/17/08)
