The Set: Pete Deksnis's Site about the CT-100 Restoring a Vintage Color Television Set |
out of the box
This FACTORY FRESH 15GP22 was finally removed from
its shipping carton 48 years after is was boxed in Lancaster.
Here's something most of us will never see in a lifetime of wishing. A "new" 15GP22, right out of its RCA carton where it had been hibernating since it was packed February 16, 1954. To top that, it was acquired at the same time as a CT-100 that had been gathering dust since 1961. When powered up (after appropriate reforming of the power supply electrolytics), the result was a raster.
Squint carefully at the 15GP22. A raster in the upper
two-thirds of the faceplate caps forty-one years of waiting.
