11-23-2001 Pete: I will be happy to supply you with the information about my CT-100 but you will have to wait about 2 weeks. I live in southern California and the set is at my parent's house in Wisconsin. I will be going there on December 1st and can get the info then. I believe that the magazine article is there too. I know I have it somewhere, as I usually do not throw those magazines away. I will be contacting you soon. 11-28-2001 Thanks for the update. Please don't go to any trouble over the magazine. It was one of those quick thoughts that probably should have been squelched. I do look forward to including your chassis and cabinet serial numbers in the database of CT-100 survivors. Regards, Pete 12-3-2002 Pete: I got back to Wisconsin and just now got to look at my set for the numbers. The chassis serial number is B8001617 and all three cabinet numbers are "20". I looked at some of the stuff that came with the set and I have an RCA service clinic book of Principles and Technical Features of the Model CT-100, a 4-page ditto sheet explaining all the features of the set including the $1000 price, and an envelope containing the original UHF channel markers. Judging from the 3 UHF channels on the channel selector the set was used in the Milwaukee area when it was new. I got scared for a bit when I first took a close look at the face of the picture tube. It looked like it had a crack so probably against my better judgement I plugged it in and a snowy raster came on quickly. Thank God! I unplugged it soon though as it smelled like something burning, perhaps just dust, I didn't leave it on long enough to find out for sure. I found your article in that magazine. It was right were I thought it was. I wish I could find everything that easily. Steve 12-4-2002 I hooked up an aerial to the set last night and got sound and a pix with the horizontal about a mile off. Also the vertical was short (like on every other old TV I own). I will try to recap the vert and horiz sections and see what that does. If I get that done before I go back to California and if it works I'll take a photo of the screen. Another problem that I remember having with the set when it did work was that there were two vertical white lines about a quarter of an inch wide and about two inches apart on the left half of the screen. It wasn't horizontal foldover as a normal image could be seen beneath the lines. [ Your cabinet serial number is particularly interesting because only two others in the database are two digits. James O'Neal has a non-matching cabinet (83) and lid (46) and the Model 5 discovered last summer has the numbers 42 and 14, respectively. Yours is the first 2-digit matching set. ] 7-18-2002 You may have already heard from Steve Dichter, but if not his set is again working well. A new focus control and field neutralization control did the trick. Sams claims that the focus control is a 1/2 watt pot with which Steve McVoy agrees. I got a 5-meg 2-watt pot from a gentleman off the internet which was his last one. However, Surplus Sales of Nebraska sells the same thing just a shorter shaft. This control seemed to work fine in Steve Dichter's set. The set has a great picture. The color is fantastic, and I just hope that it stays working for a while. Now both his set and mine are almost like new! I'm currently trying to fix a small 50s B+W portable, anything to keep me from going into CT-100 withdrawal...
